Access El Dorado (ACCEL) [top]
Did you know? Low and no cost health insurance may be available for your child even if your household has a moderate income.
There are several options for uninsured children in El Dorado County. Certified Application Assistors are available to help you free of charge to find out if you qualify and to assist you in the application process.

Uninsured adults who are looking for health insurance may contact Human Services at (530) 642-7300 in Placerville or (530) 573-3200 in South Lake Tahoe.
The Healthy Families Program [top]
Children who have health insurance generally have better health throughout their childhood and into their teens. They are more likely to:
- Receive needed shots that prevent disease
- Get treated for recurring illnesses such as ear infections and asthma
- Receive preventative care to keep them well
- Be sick less often
- Get the treatment they need when they are sick

Child Safety and Injury Prevention Program [top]
Accidental injury is the number one killer of America’s children. Our staff can provide referral to agencies who have low-cost car seats. Certified Technicians are available to help these individuals with installation.

Tobacco Use Prevention Program (TUPP) [top]
TUPP was established in 1990 to reduce tobacco use and exposure to secondhand tobacco smoke in El Dorado County. It is funded by monies generated by Proposition 99, a state tax on tobacco products. TUPP carries out four program priorities:
- Counter pro-tobacco influences in the community
- Reduce exposure to secondhand smoke and increase the number of smoke-free public spaces, worksites, schools and communities
- Reduce availability of tobacco products
- Promote availability of smoking cessation services
TUPP collaborates with community agencies, youth, service and health organizations, local officials and schools throughout El Dorado County to offer a variety of tobacco education, cessation and policy programs:
- Education on the effects of secondhand smoke
- Advocacy regarding tobacco control policies
- Implementation of voluntary policies and state laws
- Information on environmental and social norm change
To report an unlawful sale of tobacco products to a minor call 1-800-5-ASK-4-ID. Help your fellow smoking commuters overcome their compulsion to toss their butts out the window by utilizing the California Highway Patrol’s number: 1-800-TELL CHP.

Tobacco Prevention Coalition [top]
The Tobacco Prevention Coalition is an advisory body to Public Health’s Tobacco Prevention Programs. Membership includes representatives from community agencies, schools, organizations, major racial/ethnic groups within local health jurisdictions, and individuals with special interest or expertise in tobacco control.
Mission: Transform El Dorado County into a tobacco-free community. We care about the health of our community; therefore we seek to achieve the maximum reduction in smoking and other tobacco use by focusing on social norm change through education and policy adoption.
